Fortinet security processors can accelerate specific parts of the packet processing and content scanning functions. This technology also offers the ability to run multiple security applications without degradation in performance.
Fortinet’s next generation firewall FortiGate security appliances are powered by combination of Content Processors and Network Processors.
Fortinet’s Content Processor (CP9) works outside of the direct flow of traffic, providing high-speed cryptography and content inspection services. This frees businesses to deploy advanced security whenever it is needed without impacting network functionality.
Fortinet’s latest Network Processor (NP6) works in-line with FortiOS functions delivering superior firewall performance for IPV4, IPV6, and multicast traffic with ultra-low latency down to three microseconds.
System-on-a-Chip Processor (SOC3)
Fortinet integrates content and network processors along with RISC-based CPU into a single processor known as SOC3 for entry-level FortiGate security appliances used for distributed enterprises. This simplifies appliance design and enables breakthrough performance without compromising on security.
These security processors are used to scale from 1 Gbps to 1 Tbps of firewall throughput—independent of packet size. Our parallel path processing architecture optimizes the high performance hardware and software resources available in packet flow to deliver ultra-low latency and maximum throughput.
